Chaos Returns to Dominate the Old World

The Old World is looking north with concern once again. For too long the forces of Chaos have remained a latent threat, but now the champions of the Dark Gods are preparing a new wave of destruction.

For The Old World players, this arrival means much more than a handful of new miniatures. It is a chance to bring back one of the most iconic factions of Warhammer Fantasy with new tools, new ways to play, and a refreshed look that keeps the essence of those armies clad in steel and corruption.

You will be able to pre-order them from your local store on Saturday 8 August.

Champions of Chaos: the new leaders of destruction

The first release is the arrival of the new Champions of Chaos, characters ready to lead the hordes of Chaos on the battlefield.

These champions can represent different roles within the army, from warrior leaders to a battle standard bearer, offering greater variety when building a force of your own.

The aesthetic keeps that balance between brutality and grandeur that defines Warriors of Chaos: impossible armour, dark symbols, and the sense that every warrior is trying to earn the favour of entities that are never satisfied.

The roar of Chaos Dragons reaches the battlefield

Chaos does not advance with armoured warriors alone. Among its ranks march creatures born from nightmares, and the new Dragons of Chaos arrive to become one of the most spectacular centrepieces of any The Old World army.

These two-headed beasts represent everything that makes the forces of Chaos fearsome: uncontrolled power, monstrosity, and a strength few commanders can truly master. Only the most ambitious lords are capable of subduing a creature like this and turning it into a weapon of war.

The new plastic kit lets you build a Lord on Chaos Dragon, a miniature designed to dominate the tabletop both in presence and destructive capability. It also offers the option to create a Sorcerer on Chaos Dragon, bringing a different combination of speed, magic, and brutality to the Warriors of Chaos army.

As a detail especially interesting for collectors, the box also lets you build the alternative on-foot character, giving more options to use both leaders alongside infantry troops and adapt the force to each battle.

Chaos Knights and Warriors: a new armoured threat

The return of Chaos would not be complete without its most recognisable troops. The new Chaos Knights arrive as a unit designed to represent the devastating impact of a heavy cavalry charge.

These mounted warriors combine speed, resilience, and offensive power, becoming one of those units capable of changing a game with a single well-timed charge.

Alongside them come the refreshed Chaos Warriors, the backbone of any Chaos army. Disciplined troops within a faction known precisely for its brutality, capable of advancing through a rain of attacks while their armour absorbs blows that would finish other soldiers.

Battle March: smaller wars, the same ambitions

One of the most interesting additions for The Old World is Battle March, a format designed for faster games with armies of between 400 and 750 points.

This mode aims to keep the tactical depth of traditional play while reducing the time needed to prepare and fight a battle. It is an especially attractive option for those who want to test new lists, run small campaigns, or simply play more games in less time.

Warriors of Chaos will also receive their own Battle March box, with units such as a Chaos Sorcerer, Warriors, Marauders, Knights, and Marauder Horsemen. A selection designed to start a compact force or expand an existing collection.

New books and cards to expand the army

The release will also bring content for players who enjoy exploring new army possibilities.

The Arcane Journal: The March of Chaos will expand Warriors of Chaos options with background lore, new rules, and an alternative army list that lets you combine their forces with Beastmen. It will also include new options for champions and wizards.

In addition, new reference cards will arrive to make games easier. Among them are the Arcane Magic Ploys, along with updated reprints of magic item and lore of magic cards.

Our take

The return of Chaos to The Old World feels like a very coherent bet on the faction’s identity. It does not try to reinvent Warriors of Chaos, but to reinforce what always made them special: soldiers that are almost impossible to stop, champions obsessed with glory, and armies that advance slowly while the enemy understands the threat in front of them far too late.

The combination of new miniatures, Battle March, and additional customisation options could be an excellent entry point for new players and a good excuse for veterans to bring their old hordes back to the table.

Because if one thing defines Chaos, it is that it never truly disappears. It only waits for the right moment to march again.
